What We Believe

God’s Word
We believe the Bible is God’s Word. It is accurate, authoritative and applicable to our everyday lives.

God’s Person
We believe in one eternal God who is the Creator of all things. He exists in three Persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. He is totally loving and completely holy. The Lord Jesus Christ is both God and man and is the only one who can reconcile us to God.  Each time we partake of communion we remember that Jesus lived a sinless and exemplary life, died on the cross in our place, and rose again to prove His victory and empower us for life.

God’s Plan For Man
We believe sin has separated each of us from God and His purpose for our lives.  In order to receive forgiveness, we must repent of our sins, believe in Jesus Christ and submit to His will for our lives. God wants to heal and transform us so that we can live healthy and powerful lives in order to help others more effectively.  In order to live the holy, fruitful, and power-filled lives God intends for us, we need to be baptized in water, set our mind on Him and His purpose, and be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit.

God’s Plan for the Church
We believe God has individually equipped us and corporately gathered us as His living body. Therefore, we can successfully achieve His purpose for our lives, which is to worship God, strengthen the Church, and share the Gospel with the community in which we live.

God’s Plan for the End Times
We believe the Lord Jesus Christ is coming back again as He promised and will rule and reign on this earth. History will conclude as the wicked are judged and the righteous enter a new heaven and a new earth.

God’s Plan for Sexuality
We believe God created man and woman in His image. He created the family to be for one man and one woman. God's design is beyond our choice and we submit to His design for marriage and sexuality.

Holy Spirit
When we speak of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit we are addressing how the Holy Spirit is not just with you but dwells in you. When the Holy Spirit infilling comes it may be accompanied with the expression of tongues, or power to be a witness for Jesus, or supernatural unconditional love. We believe the works of the Holy Spirit, including the Gifts of the Spirit are to operate in the church with order. The workings of the Holy Spirit should never draw attention to the person but should always draw people closer to Christ.

Denomination and further explanation of beliefs.
The Rock Jonesboro is a part of the Church of God denomination. You can find a more detailed explanation of our denomination's beliefs here.

  • The Church of God believes the whole Bible to be completely and equally inspired and that it is the written Word of God. The Church of God has adopted the following Declaration of Faith as its standard and official expression of its doctrine.
    • In the verbal inspiration of the Bible
    • In one God eternally existing in three persons; namely, the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
    • That Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of the Father, conceived of the Holy Ghost, and born of the Virgin Mary. That Jesus was crucified, buried, and raised from the dead. That He ascended to heaven and is today at the right hand of the Father as the Intercessor.
    • That all have sinned and come short of the glory of God and that repentance is commanded of God for all and necessary for forgiveness of sins.
    • That justification, regeneration, and the new birth are wrought by faith in the blood of Jesus Christ.
    • In sanctification subsequent to the new birth, through faith in the blood of Christ; through the Word, and by the Holy Ghost.
    • Holiness to be God’s standard of living for His people.
    • In the baptism with the Holy Ghost subsequent to a clean heart.
    • In speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance and that it is the initial evidence of the baptism in the Holy Ghost.
    • In water baptism by immersion, and all who repent should be baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.
    • Divine healing is provided for all in the atonement.
    • In the Lord’s Supper and washing of the saints’ feet.
    • In the premillennial second coming of Jesus. First, to resurrect the righteous dead and to catch away the living saints to Him in the air. Second, to reign on the earth a thousand years.
    • In the bodily resurrection; eternal life for the righteous, and eternal punishment for the wicked.
