Helen Jane McDaniel, 84, of Jonesboro, passed from this life on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at Lakeside Nursing Center. Born to Alvin and Grace Cutler on January 10, 1940, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Helen led a life marked by resilience, love, and dedication.
A 22-year survivor of breast cancer, Helen exemplified strength and grace throughout her battle. She worked diligently and retired from the state of Oklahoma, leaving behind a legacy of commitment and service. Helen was a devoted member of The Rock of Jonesboro, where she expressed her love for Jesus through her kind and compassionate interactions with everyone she met. Her beautiful smile was a testament to her inner joy and faith. Helen was a devoted woman to her faith. She was a woman who lived by the word of God, and loved everyone the way Jesus would.
Helen was renowned for her baking, often showing her appreciation for friends and family by sharing her delicious treats. She was particularly famous for her breads, pineapple cakes, Coke Cake, and a variety of other desserts that brought joy to many.
An academic achiever, Helen held double Master's degrees from Oklahoma City University in Early Childhood Development and Theology. She had a profound love for reading, a passion she passed on to her granddaughter, fostering a legacy of knowledge and curiosity.
Helen was also an active and cherished member of St. Paul Methodist Church in Tulsa, where she dedicated much of her time and energy to serving her community.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Grace Cutler, and her brother, Leroy Cutler.
Helen is survived by her son, Courtland P. McDaniel Jr. (Amy) of Tulsa, Oklahoma; her daughter, Eleanor K. Frego of Jenks, Oklahoma; her beloved grandchildren, Christopher Kirkpatrick, Nathan Puckett, Ricardo Concepcion II, Ashley Thell, Nicolas Brown, Kailah Puckett, Abigal Puckett, Aidan McDaniel, and Raymond McDaniel; and her treasured great-grandchildren, Lillith Smith, Brantley Merrick, Olivia Smith, and Gabriel McDaniel. Helen also leaves behind a host of other family members and dear friends who will miss her deeply.
A Celebration of Helen’s life will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at The Rock in Jonesboro, Arkansas with Terry Watson and Jeff Watson officiating. Burial will be private.
Services in Tulsa, Oklahoma at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church are still pending and will be announced at a later day by the family on social media.
In lieu of flowers, Helen had strict wishes that any money that would be spent on flowers be instead donated to Recovery at the Rock, 4318 E. Johnson Ave, Jonesboro, Arkansas 72401.
